Scallop season in Port St. Joe

Scallop season is reopened from August 28, 2024 – September 24, 2024 unless changed by the FWC. You can view the regulations at MYFWC.com.

On a recent trip to Port St. Joe, I took a visitor from Texas on his first ever scalloping adventure. It lasted several hours but we didn’t get near our quota. He said it was hard to see the shells in the grass and he missed several, mostly because he didn’t recognize them. Next time he will know what to look for and get more.

We went out again this weekend with more experienced scallopers and had a blast. The fun ended with a beautiful sunset.

My sister-in-law visited but she’s not into scalloping. Pickle ball is another thing. Good for her that there is a great pickle ball community in Port St. Joe. The courts are downtown near the water and the welcome center. It’s open play but Tues, Thursday and Saturday is typically for more competitive players. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday you will see newer players but there will be more experience players there as well, giving pointers. They were very welcoming because a lot of vacationers look to play in local communities while visiting.

Don’t forget Cape San Blas and Indian Pass. There is a lot to do in this quiet community.

Update: Today’s trip yielded muscles close to quarter size which were found in clear, clear water.
